A large audience gathered for tonight’s (26th March 2012) to hear David Canning talk about his lifetime in photography. David noted that from an early age he had an interest in trains and would like to be a signal man. However he started working at Boots developing and printing photographs. He did eventually manage to get his dream job working in a signal box. His photography stayed with him during this period taking photographs of the various trains, but also of everyday life.

A large audience gathered for tonight’s (27th February 2012) talk on “Costal Convoys” given by author Nick Hewitt. He noted that the convoys were all about coal and that at the time, between 1939 and 1945, shipping was still a major transportation method as the road infrastructure was not really developed.
The Annual General Meeting of the Thatcham Historical Society on Monday (30th January) was crammed with enthusiastic members. Chairman Dr Nick Young thanked the members for the continued support of the society and fellow committee members for their hard work in promoting and organising events over the past year.
