The recording of the memorials in St. Mary's churchyard was undertaken by members of the Thatcham Historical Society during 1980. The total number of gravestones surviving at that time was 260 of which 29 were illegible. The Thatcham Historical Society have produced an occasional paper No. 5, written by George Sibley, outlining the church's history and the approach to the survey and including a statistical summary. Copies of this paper are held by Thatcham Historical Society, c/o Kennet School, Stoney Lane, Thatcham.
