A large audience gathered for tonight’s (26th March 2012) to hear David Canning talk about his lifetime in photography. David noted that from an early age he had an interest in trains and would like to be a signal man. However he started working at Boots developing and printing photographs. He did eventually manage to get his dream job working in a signal box. His photography stayed with him during this period taking photographs of the various trains, but also of everyday life.
The photos David showed included some long gone scenes including the Adam and Eve pub in Newbury, the goods station at Thatcham, Woolworths and various snow scenes.
David noted that he had seen several more amusing and also serious sights. One such was a transport lorry going through Northbrook street and then getting stuck on the bridge. Other incidents included various train crashes. David’s enthusiasm for photography, trains and history was very evident from his talk. A vote of thanks was given by committee member Nick Young.
