National History Month

National History Month

May is National History Month (see www.history.org.uk). The aim of this is, and I quote from the website noted:

"The aim of the month is to increase awareness of local history, promote history in general to the local community and encourage all members of the community to participate."

The Historical Association, March 2011

We have two events that we carry out to promote this. The first is that for each day of May we will post a short fact on the history/archaeology of Thatcham (and its inhabitants and surrounding area), as we have done since 2009. So that is 31 facts in total. The second event is the Peter Allen Memorial Lecture which was started in 2010. Typically this event has several saturday talks on local historical topics. Please see the PAML website, www.paml.info for further details.
