Join herbal historian Julie Wakefield, for this in-the-field foray into Sandham’s plants and their hidden histories. In this guided meander through our beautiful wild flower orchard she will share this vast knowledge, showing us how to identify and use – as well as the traditions and folklore behind - the plants we find on our way.

Event will commence at 11am and continue till approximately 3.30pm

Sandham Memorial Chapel

Modest red-brick building housing an unexpected treasure – an outstanding series of large-scale paintings by acclaimed artist Stanley Spencer. Inspired by his experiences as a First World War medical orderly and soldier, and peppered with personal and unexpected details, these paintings are considered to be among his finest achievements.

WWI Salonika Campaign Book Launch and Lecture

On Saturday 11th June Sandham Memorial Chapel in Burghclere will play host to a book launch and lecture by the author and military historian Alan Wakefield (archivist for the Imperial War Museum) in an attempt to finally reveal the story of the forgotten campaign of the First World War, the battle for the Salonika Front.
