Thatcham Historical Society’s website refresh for 2020.

Our chairman outlined at our AGM in January the aims we hoped to achieve during 2020. One of the aims was to refresh our website which as you can see we have now achieved. Some of the content has been refresh and over the coming months we plan to add more content. We hope to share some images with you, stories and facts along with tips and resources to help you with your local history research.

If you have any old photographs, stories or memories to share we would love to hear from you via our contact page.

We started the year with a talk on the history of the Brown family of Thatcham. The talk showed how the family had come to Thatcham and grew from a watch repairer to working with cycles and onto a car dealership.

There was a nice lineup of talks for this year but with the outbreak of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) we have had to suspend talks. We do not yet know when we will be able to resume. We hope to place some details, articles, from speakers that have been cancelled on this website and we will resume and rearrange speakers as soon as it is safe to do so. Projects that can be completed from home will continue, we are looking at starting an e-newsletter and we will be updating this site regularly.

With the down time maybe you could start or continue with your own research on history, local or otherwise. Perhaps start on your family tree, give relatives a call and talk to them to find out about your family whilst staying in touch.

Remember that you are living through history, do keep a diary, a record and anything that you think future generations might like to know about what is happening today.

We look forward to seeing you all soon, stay safe.
