Excavations at Wyatt’s uncovered, below the modern floor, a Victorian floor. Below this a medieval floor was discovered. These indicate that a structure had stood where Wyatt’s once stood for at least the last 800 years or more.

Evidence of Mesolithic occupation locally first became apparent in 1920 when workmen who were carrying out levelling operations at the Lower Way sewage works found flint implements.

The Police Station situated in Chapel Street was built of brick in 1905 by Morris & Son of Reading, its architectural features showing the influence of the Arts and Crafts movement.

Thatcham had its first Bicycle Club in 1881 where Penny Farthings and Bone Shakers were the latest bikes. C.G.Brown Junior was the owner of the first motorcycle and had one of the first cars.

Chamberhouse Mill was a working Grist (corn) Mill and the first recorded name associated with the mill was Thomas Eastman in 1656. The mill was worked right up until 21st January 1965 when the last tenant, Fred Smith, passed away.
