Thatcham has three Grade II, 18th Century, listed Milestones. The most prominent is on the Bath Road at the end of the Broadway (London – 53; Newbury – 3; Reading – 14).

The “burial question” arose in Thatcham during the incumbency of the Revd. Hezekiah Martin. By 1885 he had become concerned that Thatcham’s churchyard was almost full and alternative burial facilities had to be found.

Nicholas Fuller, a barrister living at Chamberhouse, was fined and imprisoned for defending two poor men who had attended a Puritan service in 1607.

The Berks and Hants Railway Act is passed in 1845 authorising the building by the GWR of a line from Reading to Hungerford. The GWR line from Reading to Hungerford was opened to traffic on the 21st December 1847.

In 1847, fairs for cattle, etc., are held on the second Tuesday after Easter week and the first Tuesday after the 29th September.
